Re: A hammy and some Romans today

Blimey, that was a productive day. Very nicely played

The brooch is very unusual and I'm thinking Hod Hill type but Alloverover will hopefully be along soon to correct that :D

Re: Want to win this? Only special prizes here!

That's definitely top of my list of "things I didn't know I needed" They have some good stuff on their site, I like the Roman cheese press, might order one. I've already spent about £200 in me head and haven't got past page 4 of the Roman section  Like that's not gonna easily get knocked over,...

Re: Two for help with

Your spoon-shaped wossname is a bit small for an eating spoon and a bit big for something like a salt spoon. Apothecary spoon kind of kidney, perhaps?

I have heard that de-ionised water is supposed to be better as it doesn't have the added chemicals of tap water.
I've heard the same, which is why I use rainwater

Re: Book: "Cleaning Coins & Artifacts" ?

Cleaning finds these days largely consists of dunking in rainwater when I get home, a swift brushing to get any hard dirt off, then into the bin when I discover they're all junk  I know that some say not to use water, but I've never understood that, given the environment the find has been in fo...

Re: Help with ID on battered Edward penny

You can read the "EBO" of "CIVITAS EBORACI" on the reverse. Another pointer towards a York mint is a quatrafoil in the centre of the cross on the reverse, though yours doesn't have this

I don’t like the big events at all.
Nor do I since I stopped to see you were ok to get off the field at the inaugural RCM - you were fine but I got stuck and had to be towed off  :D

Agreed it's unlikely to be from a vessel

I must say it doesn't strike me as overly brooch-like, but it does appear to have some decent age to it

Re: What does your hammered coin collection look like?

Oh great. Spiffing. Thanks, Cath, for reminding me that my collection has urgently needed collating properly for the past few years  ;) I do of course keep records of all recordable finds on a general spreadsheet, with a separate one for hammereds which I haven't updated for yonks. The co...

Re: Seen at rallies

I've only ever done two rallies plus a couple of club digs I was kindly invited to attend. The rallies were a real eye opener and had me shaking my head in bemusement a few times. Quick briefing then it was like Whacky Races  I would add one type to Evan's list - The Watcher. The Watcher stands...

those Horsey rings we all find and wonder how old they are.
Quite often very old and one of those useless items which for some reason always give me pleasure to find
