Re: Crop marks

This is something I used to love spending hours doing and surprisingly had some success, though very often my idea of dates was a few hundred years out  I can see modern plough marks over all the field running from Top to bottom but hidden in those I see a thin darker line running to (or from) ...

Re: Like the Queen, we also have 2 Birthdays

Has it really only been one year ! It seems like longer than that.
Best invite I’ve ever had
It’s always been like visiting friends and having a good chin wag, whatever the subject plus a few laughs thrown in.

Congrats on your first year and here’s to many more. :blow kiss:

Re: Interesting disc type object

Dare I suggest it looks like a Roman disk brooch. I’m sure I’ve seen one similar but before you get too excited, wait for someone who really knows what they’re looking at.
Very nice find if it is. Wonder, can you remember where you found it,
so you can go back.

Re: Cotswold Urchins

Great to find whole fossils. I was introduced to the pleasures of Cotswold chips’ quite a few years ago when we bought some to fill in between the slabs. I wasted many a happy hour sorting through them looking for little fossils, which were in abundance. I’ve seen there are some still in situ in the...

Re: Been quiet lately

Should really have mentioned that the area in question was commandeered by the Gov. for the RAF during WW11. In and around where the GPO marker is there were barracks etc for personnel stationed there. Could have been interesting to detect but, of course, not allowed as it is still a military sight ...

Re: Been quiet lately

Well, yes & no. You did actually spot the tree but didn’t get the I’d right on the ‘stone’.

It speaks of one of the uses this area has Experienced through its history. Sadly I can remember these ‘stones’. Says a lot about my age !

Here’s what it really was.

Re: Been quiet lately

Just love the little bird in the 2nd pic Bruce. The other one might look better upside down. Tried screwing my head around but it just wouldn’t go  There is a find but not one I could carry and it tells part of the story of the area though I think it’s in a strange position. Look more closely :...

No & no. But well-spotted.

Re: Successful Raid on the Bank of Sand.

Maybe I should have kept my detector a bit longer. That’s just the sort of session I predicted after half the U.K. invaded the beaches. It’s something that hasn’t happened for many years. In recent times Ive walked and detected my local beaches and even on nice days have been surprised at how few pe...

Re: Been quiet lately

Finds are not always the ones you can put in your pocket. As mentioned in an earlier reply, we must be the rarer breed who are always observing our surroundings and don’t miss much. Though I’ve walked past this one a few hundred times.. I found something intriguing on one of my outings with my woofe...

Re: A bit of silver and a few bits…

Not a bad thing to moan about Cath. I never found 1 never mind 5. The best I got was a fairly unique report, for the area, about my Neolithic axe head. Good job they did a printed version ‘cause I’ve never managed to find it in their records  I know a fantastic area for history that could...
