Is there anyone on here who is a pottery expert?? Stanslad and I went out last weekend, and found a good collection of coins, but none older that 1850’s.

However, we came across a good few chunks of pottery, which I think are quite a bit older. Is anyone able to give a rough estimate of age??

Is it odd that older pottery was found without coins and other artefacts of a similar age?? 🤔

A six pence for reference.

Top: a big chunk of bronze plate or bowl with Sandy/orange matt glaze

Left: Sandy coloured fragment - unglazed but with a very thick rim.

Right: Another sandy coloured piece but with a matt greeny outer glaze and a shiny, darker/brownish inner glaze. Has a grey centre in the middle of the very thick rim.

Nice to see rims, only found one of those, rather than just the non descript pieces.
The Bronze piece is good.
Hope you get a pottery person along soon.
Cheers,
Dave.

We do indeed have a chap who knows his pottery - goes by the monicker Pottery Man - so I've shifted this to the pottery section where he's more likely to see it (though he hasn't logged in for a bit).

Was talking to Pottery Man today so just sent him a message

Pretty sure the green dull glaze with the shiny dark glaze is Brill/ Boarstall ware - medieval. I’ll post some of mine from this week👍🏼

P.S. pics of the other side and of the rim edge/ core will really help with the ID
chill…karma will fix it

Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

Not too sure on the pottery (the LH piece may be Medieval) but the bronze rim looks to be part of a medieval skillet pot

The bronze piece seems to have a Sandy/orange glaze over it.
