Apologies if this is possibly in the wrong section .
I am looking to upgrade my machine . At present I use the Q40 and I love it , it has taken me a couple of years to get my head round it but would say I have pretty much well got used to it . However I am now looking to upgrade a bit to a slightly higher end machine and the old faithful Q40 will then be my back up . I did have the Ace 250 which was my first machine and I loved it but felt I had my time with it and moved it on .

I really like the ORX , it is within my budget and as I am not one for fiddling about too much with buttons etc and get mildly irritated with too much technology it does seem the machine for me . The reviews and some you tube channels are also swaying me and above all the lightness which is a big selling point . The Q40 is lightweight when using the small blade coil but with the larger Raptor coil it then becomes a bit too top heavy . Tried the bungee and can't get on with it so lightweight machine is the way to go for me .
Has anyone on board here have any experience with the ORX to help put me onto a few pointers ?
Many thanks

I guess that you will not get anything much lighter in weight than the ORX. But the Nox 600 is a similar price, a better all round detector, and similar in weight to the Q40. Simultaneous multi-frequency is what all brands are striving for now due to it's many advantages over single frequency detectors.

Not had an ORX but had a few Deus`s. I should imagine there on a par with each other as far as the settings and working them`s concerned . .My view is there not `easy peasy` to get to grips with. OK yes! you can stick a programme in and switch on and go ,but thats not much good if you get a situation where you "should" change a setting or two to suit the conditions and if your not sure what setting does what you might as well be detecting with a Mop., & so you end up on a similar position where your driving a ferrari in 1st gear all the time. The learning curve is quite steep to my recollections of the Deus but there again some people are quick learners and it can be a reasonable learning curve. It all depends on your knowledge on detector settings how quick it`ll take you to become profficient.
I think you`d be far better off using a Nox 800 over the 600 in my view, or even a Nokta Simplex plus, and in that order . They are both very good detectors and you`d have more pleasure using either than the ORX I`d say . I find looking about on ebay and from past recollections of ebay people don`t seem to hang onto the ORX for very long .

The ORX has had great reviews but yes it will get frustrating if you then want to play more with it. You could go for a Deus and use the headphones to adapt a programme as you can do loads of changes with the headphones. Or get a second hand full Deus if you want the controller.

It depends what your criteria are. Personally I hate wires of any kind and wouldn’t buy an Equinox for that reason. But it’s all personal choice I guess. If the Deus doesn’t have a multi frequency coil option by the end of the year I’d be very surprised. The one thing good about Deus machines is the ease of changing coils, upgrading software, etc.

Both the ORX and Deus do the business well. The Equinox looks good too but I have noticed a few YouTubers who have gone back to the Deus so I guess you’ll end up being a lover of one make or another.

The coil isn't. That is what OG is commenting on. I have noticed the ratio out on the fields at the digs I have attended to be about 50/50 between the Deus and the Nox, But I feel that if XP don't come up with a something special real soon, they may well start to lose ground to the Nox.

I still think they are both fantastic machines, but the Nox has a real knack of finding some very small targets at a surprising depth. In my mind the only thing missing from the Nox right now is a smaller elliptical coil.

Maybe one of the major players will one day think outside the box, and make a combined DD-Concentric coil that could be switched 3 ways.👍😎

Well just cut them off and it'll save lots of digging!
Surely you would put up with an unobtrusive wire around the stem to needlessly digging lots of coke?

Thankyou everyone for your input both Bors and Oxgirl bring in some interesting views .
The main issue is I am not that patient with technology .Maybe some further thought required before I take the plunge .
The Simplex [ designed for simple folk like me :D | and I have thought about the Nox 600 .
Maybe time for a re think
