Hi all,
I'm looking for some help from anyone here with experience in Pulse Induction (PI) detectors, data logging or detector electronics.
I'm working on a PC-based research project looking at whether the information contained in a PI detector's transient decay response, when combined with the position and movement of the coil, can be used to extract additional spatial information about a target.
I've taken the initial work as far as I can using synthetic data. It has been useful for developing the processing approach, but I've reached the point where I need real PI measurements rather than simulated numbers.
I'm therefore looking for any of the following:
Raw PI decay waveform data
Measurements recorded at multiple delay/sample points after the transmit pulse
Logged PI detector data from different coil positions over a target
Oscilloscope captures of PI coil/receive responses
Public or non-proprietary PI datasets
Academic/research datasets involving PI metal detection
Or simply advice on where suitable real-world PI data might be available
Ideally, I'd like data from a controlled test where the target and coil positions are known, for example a coin or other metal object at a known depth, with measurements taken from several positions and/or sweep directions.
I'm not looking for proprietary firmware, source code or confidential commercial information. Even a relatively small non-sensitive dataset would be extremely useful.
The reason I'm asking is that the PC model is now showing both promising behaviour and some fairly serious limitations when I introduce mineralised ground, iron and coke/hot-rock type responses. I don't want to keep tuning simulated data and fool myself into thinking the results represent a real detector.
I'd much rather put the algorithm up against genuine PI measurements and see where it succeeds or fails.
If anyone has a dataset, has carried out this kind of recording themselves, or knows of a suitable public source, I'd be very grateful for a pointer.
Thanks,
