Mudripper wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 8:26 am Same here. Recently I asked a manufacturer if they'd sponsor a mate of mine. The guy is out detecting almost every day —(basically a Fred clone in the wild, a genuine 100% field tester).

Their first question: "Does he have a YouTube channel?"

C'est comme ça

My old friend and beachcomber extroidinaire, always said "never mind anyone else, do your own thing" more relevant now than when he told me that in 1978.

As a Deus 2 user to me it's greatest use is of a cheaper coil upgrade!
Worth buying one as backup and spare coil in one....
Clever bit of marketing for us current D2 users!

HammeredDeus wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2026 8:24 pm I think that a decent smattering of YT'ers have been pretty positive about it. Also, it really isn't peak detecting season at the moment, inland anyway, so maybe that's part of the story. A European one is DetectorKing (most of his vids are overdubbed/titled in English). A US one (who reminds me of ScoobyDoo's friend Shaggy  ) is Jeremy 'Paystreak SuperFreak' - he uses the Icon X with the HF2 to good effect in highly mineralised parks around the Pacific northwest, doing direct comparisons with the D2. There's also good old Gary and Calabash, who've done some.

My impression, second hand, of the Icon/X is that it is a very competitive product, with a unique ability to interoperate with Deus 2 accessory coils/phones, as well as the MI6. They've fixed the coil charging dongle annoyances, and probably fixed the RC (dis-)mounting annoyance too. If I didn't already have the Manti as a (ahem!) backup detector, I might get one as a spare/loaner :D

PS I do wonder though, if the market as a whole may have slowed down - economic conditions, and the reality of getting permissions being ever tougher.

PPS I think that the bigger screen and overall lightness/compactness are two other strong selling points

Yes seen all those buddy, and that's my point really, not much from blighty at the moment.
Funny enough Gary Blackwell just released one in the field and he's not impressed with the tones and a few other bits.

TBH there aren't many UK yt'ers - present company incl. Alexander excepted - besides Gary that are worth watching. Hard to imagine much swinging/digging going on in current conditions!

I enjoy quite a few of the UK channels, mostly the more humble ones with modest size subs and simple little videos.

Is the Icon X remote compatible with Deus II coils?

I'm currently using a minelab ctx 3030 have done for 2 years plus. I'm young ish I would say at 45 :D . The weight doesn't bother me and I love the detector. (Even though probably outdated) but I am thinking of trying an xp machine. I've looked at the icon series but I still think a deus one or orx would be a better fit. What's your thoughts?

Obviously it depends on how you use it but the CTX is one of the most powerful machines available. In my opinion the only machines that can touch it for performance are the Manticore and possibly the D2. The Manticore, the D2 and some other modern machines have other features which make detecting much easier and more fun than it is with the CTX. Be aware that changing brands may mean learning to detect afresh as successfully using an XP machine requires a much different approach from using a Minelab one.
