Evening guys,

Was out yesterday on one of my permissions that has recently been ploughed. It's so water logged I wonder if the farmer will even bother planting anything at all this winter (result for me :D ) although it is pretty tough going under foot!

Had nothing all day, just the usual copper and lead junk when the weather took a turn for the worse so decided to call it a day. Was heading back to the car doing my wide swing motion and boom...a pretty consistent 66-69 on the Garrett and out popped this pretty well worn Hammie! Nice result for the end of the day. Someone identified it as an Edward III York penny, would love a confirmation and any other details if possible.

Thanks for looking

Certainly a York mint - you can see the quatrefoil in the centre of the reverse and the BORAC portion of CIVITAS EBORACI (city of York) in the legend.

Edward III looks a decent shout but without me books to hand...

There will be someone along shortly who knows this sort of stuff in his sleep

Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

Thanks guys.

I guess it's a little too far gone to decipher whether Edward III, but chuffed to add another Hammie to my collection.

Let's see what this weekend brings when I get out there :D

If you are prepared to go detecting on that sort of ground you deserve at least one hammered coin for effort.
