A recent find and I think it's a Bag Seal of sorts, but it's quite a chunky one in comparison to any of my previous finds.
It's very difficult to get any detail to show up in the photos, I've tried various angles with my LED lamp and there's not an awful lot to see.
On one side, I think I can see the letters BASI, I think it may just be partial text though. There may be some sort of design below the text.
On the other side (which is harder to read), I think I can see a date, 1850, maybe 1852?
Found in North Yorkshire if that helps at all?

Great photos. I am incapable of telling cloth and bag seals apart but only cause I’m too lazy to look

Thanks Cath, to be fair I'm unsure if it's a bag seal, or some other kind of seal. It's quite a hefty little item.

I think Saggy is right - some sort of utilities seal - http://www.bagseals.org/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=3904
Does it match any water, gas, electricity companies near there??
Here's a used one - http://www.bagseals.org/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=3147

another possibility is a seal off an engine diesel pump from a tractor or other machine. They were used to stop people tampering with the diesel delivery to the the engine or governors, that could increase the power of the tractor
I will see if I can find a picture

Thanks very much for all the help folks.
I think this an ID request that I'd very much like to vanish into thin air . . . oh the shame, how embarrassing!
