I bet every one of you has stuff you’ve found, maybe even recorded that is still a mystery. Let’s see what we can do to get that thing identified now whilst we’re all twiddling our thumbs and avoiding other jobs.

I’ll start us off.

I found this thingy in an area where I’ve only found Roman coins - 16 grotty little snivelling coins in the same weekend actually. It’s copper or copper alloy and has a broken loop. I suspect it had two.
The PAS record is here.

Any ideas or do you have one of your own?
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

My thinking would be assuming your correct in it being uniform and would have a missing arm with a loop on each arm

Thinking outside the box
Could it be a strap end, the two terminals connected and held in place with captive pin?

Or a fastener for clothing, a pin through he loops to hold the cloth in place, or even hair perhaps, human or animal?

Or a simple harness pendant / swinger?

⬆️ What he said. The knopf is very similar to some on Anglo saxon cruciform brooches.

I was wondering if it might be a triangular shaped buckle/ brooch as there could be a pin groove under the knop. I was told though that none of that style are known. That would tie in with Steve’s pin idea very well. Thank you for the clothes fastener or hair tie ideas and for making me think wider than the usual buckles/ brooches

Thanks Easylife - I have looked through anglo saxon brooches but can’t see a parallel?

It says horse bit related to me. I just need to find a comparison somewhere.
