Just been made aware of this, (taken from my club site).

There are two fake leisure promotions profiles active on Facebook. Think they’ve been on since yesterday or before. I just got a friends request off one. Then it confirmed I’d won the PS5 in their competition. They look pretty convincing these profiles.Luckily a friend tipped me off before I could get duped. As I’m pretty sure it’s asking for bank details etc when you register to be on their VIP site and except your prize. Make no mistake this is a SCAM so don’t interact with them. They have seen an opportunity. LP very kindly put on a genuine competition for someone to win a PS5 and the two profiles are trying to exploit that. You will know if they are specifically targeting you because you’ll get a friends request off what seems to be an LP profile. Note the real LP page is just that a business page and won’t be sending you a friends request. So if you get one report the profile then block it for your own online and financial safety.

I often think with the number of scams and hacked accounts that FB is just not worth the effort

Thanks Saffron, good heads up there

There was another one exposed today for a guy called "ladbaby" who is always pranking his wife and kids and did a charity single about a sausage roll

The scam was they faked his account and put a post up saying £20,000 to the first person to answer blah blah
Again they look for bank details and wipe you out in seconds...

Even without the scams FB is hardly worth any effort. I only use it on occasion to update family and friends when we are travelling should they care to even look. It just seems to be full of whingers, busy bodies and folks that should really get out more into the real world rather than publicly sharing their own personal issues.
There are some gullible numpties about though!

I agree about FB hardly being worth the effort.

However, I would NEVER use it to post when travelling as have heard of several cases where people have said / shown where they are - hence meaning they are not at home - and when they returned home found that they have been burgled. In my view not a good idea to say when your house will be empty.

I totally agree. In our case when travelling long term we either sell our house, rent it out or leave it completely empty, so not an issue.
