I was out in the same area where I got the 3 groats. Came home after hours of disappointment and only a Viccy sixpence to show for my sniffles. Lots of lead and a few coppers. But acres of nothingness.
Out today for a walk with my family, opened the boot , while waiting for the kids to get hats and gloves on, rummaged through my finds bag. Spotted what I had assumed was a poor man's love token of a bent half penny. I Gave a scratch at the detritus with my thumbnail. Part of it snapped into a dozen tiny bits. Its then I spotted a possibility of a hammered coin
It just goes to show these pop up in the most unbelievable states.
I've attached a photo I took when I still thought it may have been a halfpenny.
Any ID help would be very much appreciated. It seems to be approx 24mm

Wonderful to get a surprise in the bag of ‘probably not good’ finds! Well done. A great start to the new year
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

Blimey, I would never have thought that the coin in the first picture could turn out to be a silver hammered with that much detail.

It just shows that we should check our "rubbish" finds properly.
