Update on metal detecting in England
I'm lucky i have permissions a mile and half from home. but as usual there's no clear line's to go by. My view if you have a bike and have permissions within 7 miles go for it.It seemed ok for the pm to travel that far by bike.

The concern is that some of the guidance is still a bit vague and much is left up to individual interpretation. However for some it is a go though for me a no- go as my only undrilled field is some 4 or 5 miles away.
It is also bang next to a road and the Police have stopped for a word a few times to check out if i have permission in the last few years - easy one for them that requires minimal exertion on a cold day. Back to walking the dog for exercise.

Treat it as you would any other exercise. Common sense is a useful skill you all have loads of - just use it!

I have loads of land right on my doorstep,,,,,,, I just need to buy some big waders to be able to get on it..... so I might just wait a little while longer.

I have a few fields locally I can go on. However, they are sodden right now and I would be doing more damage by digging as you can't help but leave it looking muddy and messy at this time of year , and I don't want to upset me farmer

Just had a look at my local fields and they're wetter than when I left them all those weeks ago. Didn't think that was possible

The land on my permission is sodden at the moment so best left to settle down for a while , mind you we have a week or more of rain to contend with but I do have a rather ragged stubble field which may get some attention .

From my house, my permission is as about 2 miles across the other side of the Milford Haven estuary so if I go by boat I am probably OK If i go by car it is about a 10 mile trip so probably not OK

Swim and class it as exercise and do the beach on either side. Or take a spare shaft and use it as a snorkel and do the bottom
