Going through the pile of bits from yesterdays excursion I did winkle this interesting little item out the ground . There are two lugs to the rear so I am thinking possibly a brooch or something to do with horse harness . It looks quite old , I thought initially it was Victorian but somehow it feels older . Any ideas would be appreciated thankyou .

20mm x 20mm .

A nice find, Paul.
Not a clue, does look old, that type of patina but the lugs throw a spanner on an Id.
At least you found it and hopefully someone will be able to give a full description.
Cheers,

What no scale - what is this forum coming to

The two lugs look like the same fitting as a cap badge. I wondered if it could be a stylised 4 leaf clover. Plating has definite start dates - any obvious surface metal left?

There's no need for a scale as you gave dimensions, either is fine.
Good things come to those who wait.
