In fact I’ve not been finding much at all in the last few weeks. Well nothing that exciting anyway. Yesterday I managed to get in my favourite field as it’s just been vacated by 30 young cows who have done a pretty decent job of getting rid of the grass. Shame it comes out the other side though  Avoiding the steaming and crusty divots became a bit of a chore.

An early hole gave me a complete bag seal and I thought I might have a good day. But that was the highlight. Well not even a highlight as it turns out as it ended up being a blank one despite looking like it might have a good design when I took it out  In fact the days total ended up being 3 musket balls, a large iron buckle, a copper coin and not much else.

So why write anything? Well because the copper coin ended up being an unusual one. It’s from somewhere I’d never thought in a million years I’d find in a field on this farm. It’s from 🇸🇳- that’s Senegal to those of you who don’t know your flags (I don’t  ). Here you go...

Anyway whilst I’m here I’ll show you the highlights of my last few trips too. There was this candle holder piece from last week. They are dating on PAS as from 1300-1600 like this more complete one, it’s a first for me.

And I had some other interesting stuff on the previous 3 visits to another field including two girl guide badges, a modern leaf shaped brooch with a few of the stones still in place, two post medieval jettons, part of a pot leg and two strap mounts, one with a bit of gilding and some leather still in the back. But no silver :( . Need to keep looking :geek:

Senegalese? The mind positively boggles  How on earth did that get there, and secondly, how on earth did you manage the Senegal flag icon?

Well, that's detecting for you but I'd love to have found the candlestick

Slow days happen, the dry conditions don't help, we need some rain on the fields

More ground available now the crops are coming off

Oh yes, i feel your pain Cath. I went over a newly harrowed barley stubble field and it is a big old field. Loads of dust and hard digging under the roughed up stubble layer. I found nothing of any substance apart from a reasonable dandy button. Nice button in other circumstances ...it had lots of pattern left with the gilding still in the crevices.
But boy it was hot, I was parched, my ankles got sore and I was bitten by flies. It really wasn't worth trudging over that bare old huge field for 3 hours. My husband stayed home on the hammock with his radio tuned into the Test Match. Sometimes when i come home I can stun him with something really good and say : Ner. You should have come! Sometimes I have lots of bits that though not valuable are really interesting and give me encouragement for new hotspots of whatever on permissions. But yesterday I wanted to tip him off that hammock and pour his cold beer over his head. He looked so smug! I have got to find something to wipe that off his face.

It is like something from one of those old-time horror movies with the dead-eyed kids.
