Has anyone found or know what this could be please.
The lead has been wrapped round a tapered stick. Ten pence for size comparison.

It might have been that some one has made a walking stick of sorts for field walking and its had the lead wrapped around the bottom bit to save a bit of wear or shaffing to the end of the wood , and over a matter of time its eventually broken off leaving a bit of the wood remaining in it. :?: just a thought

Thank you Bors, I think the wood inserted into the lead is to small to be a walking stick. But I guess the lead was fixed on for some sort of protection.

Maybe the end of an old umbrella type thing?
Does look a bit small for a walking stick type thing, but maybe just a decorative cane used just for a wealthy show?

The wood survived well though considering the lead being used, maybe an old fashioned fix on a more modern ish item?

Now, now Bors. Haven't you been told it's not the size - it's what you do with it that counts

I'd guess there's close to an ounce of lead there. The head on my priest is only an ounce and happily dispatches fish, mixy rabbits, and shhhhh - the odd pheasant - but don't tell Dave ;)
