Evening All,
Didn't find an awful lot today and spent most of it dodging the showers! But I'm very pleased with what I did find: from the portrait I thought the Roman must be Claudius Gothicusl but on closer inspection I think it might be his brother Quintillus so I'm rather excited about that though I have no idea of what's on the reverse if anyone can help.
And there is simply not enough on the hammered for me to have a chance I'm afraid! So any help with that would be much appreciated too!

All the best
Alexander

Yep - Quintillus and I think an Elizabeth I half groat. Great stuff, sir

EDIT: and I think your Quintillus reverse is SECURIT AVG (Securitas) I think there's also an officina (issuing workshop) number of VI in the right field, so possibly issued by the 6th officina, Rome.

EDIT of the EDIT: The officina is actually XI - this issue was only made by that workshop (in AD 270)

Nice Roman, looks like a Lizzy half groat to me too.

Quintillus is one of the rulers you rarely see, Alex.
Some good detail on the portrait side too.
Cheers,
Dave.

That Roman is in surprisingly good nick. The hammie is a lovely added bonus too
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

I'm not generally known for my numiss numismamisma coin collecting knowledge, but I'd hazard a fair guess that his coins are pretty rare in the first place, and this one appears to have only been issued by one workshop. As far as I can see, RIC has it as only having been issued once (RIC vol 5.1 p.242 no.31), so yeah - I'd say that's a rare one you got there, chap

Mark you, it's equally likely I've got the ID totally wrong

Yes! I thought it was Ratface at first (!) (Ratface! Very good!)... I think if I were Emperor I'd get them to flatter me a little!!!

Thanks John, very good knowledge there!!! And having read Cath's comment:

"That Roman is in surprisingly good nick. The hammie is a lovely added bonus too"

... are we converting her to the Roman cause??!!

Anyway, just in case you are bored this afternoon... (I've been out already!) Here is a quick film for you all to enjoy its called "Manage your Expectations - I Didn'T!" ) and I allude to something you said about the last one!
All the B!

I've just found a coin the reverse of which I think may turn even the hardest anti-Roman - just cleaning it now will put it up later!
