Just for a change I had a couple of hours on a field where the metallic greenwaste is quite horrendous so I barely ever go on there, but it has given up some Roman so I gave it another little go. My attitude changed after about the 30th bit of aluminium and I found myself saying 'I hate you' to the field each time another piece appeared. It's a flinty arable field with what I guess is wheat just sprouting but the farmer is okay with me going on it. I was scanning the ground for old pottery but only saw post medieval bits and not that much of it. Still I collected just one piece out of curiosity, the rim of some large pot with dark glaze on the inside only. Any thoughts?

It's odd how there are so many bits of clay smoking pipe stems about but no bowls? Apart from about 50 bits of greenwaste and some scrap there was not a lot to show for my efforts but was pleased to see a silver coin, a 1884 three pence. The only other coin was a George III farthing, two cloth bale seals, two watch winders, a post medieval finger ring, a George V commemorative medal and a buckle, though not sure of it's use?

Well that's my last visit until I again forget just how much I hate this field for it's greenwaste. :?

Ha! I think you did ok.... I have a similar problem but once you weigh up the good v the bad, is it worth it? I'd say yes in your case...and its just a yes at mine too!

I'd say on balance probably still worth it, but then again I'm not the one digging the 30 bits of waste.
Some good bits there

Lol you did better than me today. My green waste is mainly lead though!

And yet again more silver! You really are on a roll
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

Lead is good, a sign of activity. :D
Yes, a bit of silver always seems to show wherever I am, but when it's gone it's gone!
