This has been in my finds box a little while and I had completely forgotten about it.
I suspect it’s too small at just under an inch wide to get a concrete ID, but if anyone would care to make a suggestion along with a possible age, I would be most grateful. The patina to me suggests some age but that’s just a hunch..
I should say the reverse is blank and looks to have always been so...The metal also seems to be cast rather than rolled or pressed....

It's not just the patina - the hand-engraving puts it back in time a fair bit. The hole suggests a medieval mount of some description

Thanks for that...I was hoping somebody would come to those conclusions as that is what I was thinking as well...So far it's the only potentially pre 1700 find I have had off this particular field, but it gives me the impetus to keep searching..

It's either broken or the most asymmetrical item ever! It has some good age to it.

Good things come to those who wait.

The breaks look well worn, no doubt it has travelled far over time. The rest of it could be in the next field even!
