Went out detecting today with a mate who I had not seen since the begining of the Covid last year...I had a local permission in mind, but he fancied a different farm, one which did not fill me with joy due to the presence of *a lot* of contaminated green waste.
We arrived onsite about 10:30am and set to with the usual flush of enthusiasm...
After a couple of hours, the high lights were two lead bullets, a modern bag seal, and a George V half penny from a silly depth, plus a lots of alloy scrap fragments...
After a break for lunch, we set to again, but it was just more of the same ie endless scrap, plus a smattering of lead...
My mate called it a day about 2:30pm and walked back to the cars muttering about needing better ground...I shouted after him to keep to keep his phone on so I could phone him when I found a hammered..
15 minutes later, the Nox bleeped up with another shallow 10...More scrap I thought and almost didn't dig it, but the signal was nice an clear...
Barely 3 inches down I found the "clump" and was still thinking foil or canslaw, when out popped the ring below...Sadly I think I broke it crushing the "clump" but luckily it's modern and was missing its centre anyway so no harm done but lesson learned...
Hallmarks show its 9k and it weighs in at 4.2 grams and it is now safely in my scrap pile ...it's only the second bit of gold I have ever found, so it was a pleasant surprise and saved an otherwise almost blank day..
Pretty dire day untill....

Below are the rest of my meagre finds..Top left is a modern bag seal, but I am not sure about top right? It looks like it might be part of a bag seal, but there is no lettering or design visible...
Bottom left is another question mark...I am guessing it's just s blob of lead, but wondered if it could be an early lead bottom?
I had forgotten about bottom right which is a tiny charm with (appropriately for Easter) three crosses on it....I think it's Victorian or later and it's the second of these I have found.

Well done on the gold ring Pete, what year is it?

Good things come to those who wait.

Thanks mate..Not sure of the year, I can see a "9", a ".375" and a "K", the makers mark is not legible and neither is another of the hallmarks, but I don't think it's particularly old...
Edited to add I ve looked at the "k" again, I think it's 1966, which is a bit older than I thought, but not that old in the great scheme of things...

That’s not a bad days detecting, even without the ring! But that’s a nice added bonus

Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking
