My apologies for the quality of the photo.... this is the front and back of what I think is an annular brooch or buckle, can anyone assist as to whether it is Saxon or Medieval please and is my ID correct? It is 30mm at its widest point, is convex on the front face and flat on the reverse. Thanks in advance.

Can`t help with an Id, Mark but if i had found it would also be trying to find out what it is.
Does look old, may be worth a photo to your FLO, decoration on it may be known to them.
Cheers,

Certainly got age to it, and going by the decoration I'm leaning more towards medieval. As to what it was - annular/penannular brooch or buckle is a fair shout, though it looks suspiciously symmetrical.

It looks suspiciously like half a Saxon annular or penannular brooch. But I can’t tell them apart from some that are medieval so could be wrong. Maybe it needs to be in the hand to be sure. Check out the PAS brooch guide on 6-7th century brooches and you’ll see some with convincing similarities  :Star:
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking
