Well, well, well - so the Minelab Manticore does have a design flaw.

So far the Manticore has been pretty bombproof. Despite daily use and my best efforts it has survived intact for a couple of years with no issues at all - until now.

I have now had coil covers on the 9 inch, 11 inch and 15 inch coils fail in fairly rapid succession, but not in the normal way. On all of my previous detectors coil covers have eventually worn though and had to be replaced. This is perfectly normal but it isn't how the Manticore ones are failing. It appears that over time and use the plastic soften up and distorts until the covers become loose and no longer stay on the coil. I could use cable ties to keep them on but it's not really a good look and quite odd that the Manticore is the only detector that I've ever owned to suffer from this. I presume that the wrong grade of plastic has been used but whether it's a specification or quality control issue I have no idea.

Any thoughts on this?

I suppose I asked for that. Actually most coil covers would probably have worn through in 2 years anyway so I haven't really lost out.

I received this soft cover for the M8 as a gift, 3D printed by Russkamrad, I don't like the color but it holds the black cover in place excellently and prevents dirt from getting in, I don't know if it exists for other coil sizes though.
