Despite visiting numerous stately homes and seeing heavy duty curtains hanging down , had never thought about how they were attached to the poles.
Watching episode 2 of River Hunters, York area and Vikings, curtain rings were mentioned as going back to 1500`s when curtains were the latest trend for the rich landowners.
Some of those vague rings we all find that normally we assume are Horse or Agriculture related, may have come from inside the house.
Cheers,
Dave.

I saw that too :D . It was an interesting discussion

Lots of those rings were plain brooches, button frames, etc. though too. Some are beautiful hand cast and filed with a stunning tactile feel. On Face ache the standard stuff trotted out is that they are ring money or curtain rings which sends me a bit potty. Bit like all lead is either a palm guard or a pot mend :pulling hair out:

I hate that I don’t know what each one was used for but I know some were junction rings, used to decorate belts and hang pretty pendants from. Plus a myriad of other interesting uses I’ve not thought of. I refuse to accept most of mine had even had a sniff of curtain material anywhere near them - they aren’t big enough for a start off 8-)
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

Not seen the programme but the filed ones with sharp inner edges were never curtain rings.
Good things come to those who wait.
