Just looking at the bronze ring in the second picture - it looks like it originally had a bar across the middle? Interesting!

I first thought that, but then thought it maybe had two as a cross?

Yes, the ring has had at least one bar , but as Easylife says probably two making it a cross.
Have to say that's very well spotted from a
photo. :clapping:
The ring is quite square in section, quite different from the usual harness/curtain? rings.
It is interesting, but can't find any parallels yet.
Thanks for the interest.

To be honest from what I see by the photo I see nothing to indicate its had a Cross on it at one time. I do see the remains of two stubs to possibly indicate a bar of some description has once been there but I see nothing to say otherwise. I don`t think its even a Buckle of sorts as its too flat but! that`s not to say it hasn`t been one ,but from the Picture, gut instinct tells me I don`t think it is. Who knows ,maybe a close up might revel something to say different?

Upon first looking at the new photos I "thought" for a split second I could see some other indication of two further possible stubs but the more I looked,I then thought, no, its my "Eyes" playing tricks & expecting to see them ,but their actually NOT there as far as I can make out. What does Reiver think ,as he can look much closer "in the flesh" so to speak. Does he think there`s any traces of two other bits which have broken off. It might be worth looking with a Magnifying glass if he has one?

Yes, I think there are two more fixing points on the inside face ,opposite the two more obvious ones. Which as Easylife has mentioned would make any bars crossing the circle from a cross.
Thanks for looking Bors.

I definitely see 2 pairs of nubs (although the ones going left to right are extremely faint) indicating a cross. 🤔
