Men caught detecting on Ancient Monument in Cheshire.
6 men were recently caught with Palstave axe heads and many other items, after being caught metal detecting on an Ancient monument ,
ie "Beeston Castle in Cheshire " .From what I read they were lightly let off by a slap on the wrist and (this made me laugh) Banned from detecting on any ancient monument site in the UK. Err their not supposed to be detecting there anyway ,never mind banned from detecting in the future on ancient monument sites. The Laws an ass. No wonder people have no qualms about detecting on the Ancient monument sites, they know they`ll probably get just a slap on the wrist or a small find if they get caught.

Sadly there’s been a few reports recently - and there’s another one about to come out in the next week or so too

These lot were all new to the hobby too, starting detecting in the last year or so I believe. Really sad to read this stuff and I hope there’s some way of increasing sentences for these crimes cause the penalties they can throw at them aren’t harsh enough in my opinion.
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

I could have some sympathy if a person makes a genuine mistake, but many of those caught are hardened night hawkers and deserve jail time for what they are doing....
