Livery button?

Hi, can anyone help with identification please?
Button just under 23mm diameter. Has some slivering colour on front.
Writing on the back, but not legible.
Found near Tenterden Kent.

Ironic that i see the letters as M D. and you found it with an MD being an MD as indeed we all are.

I bought a lovely old copy of Boutell’s Heraldry (a nice 1864 edition :Party: ) today and I really think this isn’t a family livery button. Maybe a trade or other society one (think Silversmith’s Guild to get the idea),

I’ve had a quick look but got nowhere so far sadly :(
