Can one make a passably watchable metal detecting video when you don't find anything?

Can you make a decent vid when you find nowt? Absolutely; you just did, and it shows the reality of detecting. It was an understandably shorter film than usual but there was still interest, what with the Roman brooches and the nice little doggie :D

There are too many out there who only show their good finds, and/or pad the video out by lingering overly long on the few decent bits they did find just to make flesh out the vid to 20mins. Gives entirely the wrong perspective regarding the average returns we get from an outing.

Thanks John, yes, but you don't want to be watching people dig up one rotten find after another particularly, but you can give the impression that's what is happening without the old, "its just another bit of lead... on to the next!" (... bit of lead...!)
Hope all well!

Yes ! you just did.
I always enjoy the videos. :clapping:
To be fair ,you have had a pretty good run of luck lately, brave to release this one , many others would not have.
As Figgis says this shows what it can be like in reality, not always finding the goodies.

I love your dog so much I’d watch it just so I can laugh at him chasing his tail again
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

Exactly  . But the thing about detecting is that you can still put out content without actually finding anything. Lord knows there's enough to yak about outside of actually digging stuff up, so if there's a lean spell finds-wise there's enough peripheral material to put out a good video. In fact, I don't think there are enough such videos (most seem preoccupied with showing finds being made) and I think there's a market for other aspects we deal with as detectorists.
