I found this earlier this morning while out with the Nox...

Being iron, I initially thought it was a small cannon ball until I cleaned it off and saw the large hole through the centre. There also appears to be a “pinch” in the top of the ball. The ball was covered scaly rust when I unearthed it, but that came off fairly easily. The ball is about 2 1/4” in diameter, while the hole is about 1 1/8” in diameter.

If anybody has any idea what it might be, I’d be very interested to hear...,

Maybe the 'pinch' was from a linkage bar?

I did wonder if it was a rope weight of sorts, although I can't imagine how exactly it would be used??

Would you say it's safe to label it as modern and consign it to the scrap bin?

Not sure, but I have seen much small steel balls with a hole in them which were part of a linkage..

At the moment, what ever it is, it is heading for the scrap bin unless I am told otherwise! :)

It's highly unlikely that I would have even brought it home whatever it is!
