Lol i wouldn’t have put you down as a non-believer  ;)

Personally I think they work but maybe not every day for everyone. Lots of people think that detecting is just luck and those days where you get out of the car and just know the field is going to be kind and you have a great days detecting are just the impact of your mood on your detecting technique. With a pessimistic attitude negatively impacting on your technique and finding little. But have you ever bought a ticket to a raffle and known you’ll win with absolute confidence, and then have? I have. Maybe dowsing is the same. I don’t think I have the gift with them but I think some people do :ugeek:
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

I think that mood and mindset have a huge influence on your finds rate, like a gut feeling of being quietly confident! Though occasionally it can come down to a very late save in the day by following your instinct to a particular spot for no particular reason other than you just know that there will be something good there, and there is!

Enough people believe dowsing works for me to think there might be something in it, but I have seen some right royal charlatans too.

What I don't understand is the need to want something enough for dowsing to work. I mean, is the Water Company man really that passionate about finding a leak? I doubt it, yet it seems to work for those of them that carry rods.

Pure mumbojumbo if you ask me.
It's the person holding the rods that influences the movement, same as an ouija board - it's not magic or supernatural. :problem:
So for this reason,,,,,, I'm out :D (please don't build me a wicker man)

I never believe in that rubarb but I had to scratch an itch so made some out of copper brake pipe and headed of in the wilderness. It was like I had been possessed when I walked over an underground brook. The farmer confirmed there was indeed a water source way down.

I have seen a dowser at work in Norfolk and he was looking for water bearing area for a farmer so he could drill borehole. Just there he said and naturally after drilling 25 m he struck water.

Trouble was that the farmer could have asked the drilling contractor to drill just about anywhere on his farm and he would found water. The whole area was sat on chalk geology which contains water.

Forget the detector and get some rods. Think of silver coins and when the rods cross dig a hole, how many did you find!

But, i also think its down the the person holding the rods too, i dont think just anyone can use them effectively, its just for weird folk like myself

I actually have a set that a good friend bought for me as a present, i think i'll get them out and have a scout round me house for any Jelly beans i may have mislaid

Give it a go Emily and see how you get on.....any connection with nature has to be a good thing

Not saying that what happens means anything but the subconscious is a factor. Some say that you have to think about what you seek in order to find it!
Who do you think I am?? All my hangers are wooden. 😂😂

The Great Randini, an American magician, had a standing offer of $1,000,000 prize for anybody who could demonstrate "psychic powers" such as dowsing in controlled tests..Over the years, many tried to claim the prize, including some dowsers, but none succeeded...

That said, I don't dismiss water dowsing completely. It could be that some people have the residual ability to sense water, an ability that's been mostly lost as we have evolved away from our stone age ancestors...it would only take a very slight subconscious reaction to cause dowsing rods to cross...

If that seems unlikely, think of the humble pigeon that is able to fly hundreds of miles to find it's way back home, or Swift's that often return to the same nest each year, having traversed thousands of miles between breeding seasons....many birds and animals have seemingly amazing senses/abilities, so perhaps humans had one that gave them the ability to locate water, a key factor for survival.....

I just think that if anything was real then it could be proved! I'd genuinly really like to see a ghost if they exist, but all the CCTV in the world has failed to so far!

I saw a ghost around 8-9 years ago. It was genuinely terrifying and I wouldn’t recommend the experience.
