Oh for Gods sake! :(
How many artifacts do you think have been found and recorded by divining?
Metal detecting, yes.. Archaeology, yes..
Divining.. ? (Enter irritating buzzing noise from irritating game show)..

The concept of dowsing seems to have grown to include the alleged detecting of almost anything...

If we go back to water dowsing, if the phenomena exists at all, I think this is the most likely...I have met 3 or 4 water board employees over the years who had all sorts of hi-tech company supplied equipment for detecting water leaks, but still used DIY dowsing rods.

One even said that his senior management had tried to ban their use, but many of the older engineers continued to use them because they worked...

Do you not think its just you Emily? I mean no offence by that, but some people just naturally seem to believe in all these types of things...

In contrast, I tend to be naturally skeptical about these sorts of things and have to make a conscious effort to keep an open mind about the unexplained...

I can think of only one or two "strange" events which I can not explain...

The first series of events happened about 10 years ago not long after I met my other half, Lisa....When we met she lived in a fairly typical three bedroom house built in the 1940s/50's and had lived there about 2 years.

After she moved in, she became aware of a "presence" she christened Tommy, a young boy she fleetingly saw around the house when she was there on her own. The internal doors had frosted glass panels, and she often saw Tommy walking past these windows while she was sitting in the front room. Additionally she would come down in the mornings and find things out of place; a clock turned to face the wall, or books off a book case left in a messy pile on the floor...

I scoffed at these stories and teased her a bit about them, untill one day I was sitting in the front room watching TV by myself, when the TV remote which was on the arm of a chair across the room literally flew off it and ended up on the floor in the middle of the room. This was not an item merely falling, but looked like it had been chucked 5 or 6 feet...

Lisa was (& still is) convinced that it was just Tommy "being naughty" where as I just see it as something I couldn't explain, and because I could not explain it, it does not mean it's anything super natural.....

I know this is going off topic.... but I'm like Pete – I know there is a logical, science based explanations for everything.... but..... this one time….
When I was a lad, I used to work for a company that was based in an old WW2 aircraft hangar. Between the 2 hangars was a barrack block that we used as offices, canteen and toilet lock . I was on an early shift, 06.00 start, it was winter so dark. After about 15 mins, one of the ladies left the hangar to go to the toilet. 15 mins later, she come running back in, as white as a sheet and obviously shaken. She claimed that she'd gone to the ladies and spotted a flying jacket hanging on the back of the toilet door. Thinking is was strange to see a man’s jacket in the ladies, she picked it up to take to the canteen. When she entered, there was a chap dressed in RAF uniform sat at the table drinking tea. She had a conversation with him and he got up, thanked her for returning his jacket and walked out. She followed him out but he had disappeared. That's when she thought it must have been a ghost and came running in.... needless to say, she was ridiculed for the rest of the week. She however said that he told her not to worry, that she'd come into money very soon. That Saturday she won £100K+ on the pools.....
So who knows – was it coincidence? Maybe, maybe not…. but it made me think.

Or she had embezzled £100k off the company and needed a cover story! :D :D

It could’ve absolutely been just me. My husband (boyfriend at the time) couldn’t see what I was seeing, it was outside as very dark and it might’ve been my eyes playing tricks on me. My mind knows what it saw, but that doesn’t mean it was actually there.

Strange things happen that can’t be explained. I am afraid of the dark and unknown and if I think there’s a ghost about I will not be able to sleep or relax. Luckily I haven’t ever seen anything during the day. 🤞🏻

Lisa is a brave woman. If I got even a wiff of anything like ‘Tommy’ in my house, I’d be out of there quicker than you could say ghost.

That experience is exceptional. I probably wouldn’t be afraid either if it looked, moved and talked like a real person and prophesied that I’d come into money soon, but I would’ve been freaked out the moment anything ‘strange’ happened, like him disappearing. I can’t deal with that kind of thing and although I don’t suppose ghosts exist to hurt people, I am scared that they could.

Not really a single event but sort of a series of odd happenings...

To set the back ground, I lost my mum suddenly when I had just turned 18 and later lost my father while I was in early 20s. As I have no other real family, Lisa only knows about my growing up what I have told her about. Since loosing my parents, I have also moved house a number of times, and the house we live now is completely unconnected to them...

Shortly after moving in Lisa started remarking that sometimes if she was alone in the bedroom of an evening, she could sense a presence with her, and smell a strong floral smell, which would last a few minutes and then presence and the smell would disappear. A couple of times she shouted me to come into the room to see if I could smell or sense anything, which I could not..

This happened to her intermittently over a few months and eventually I was able to smell the smell as well. One day, after one of these "events" Lisa asked me if my mother's ever wore Anais Anais perfume perfume, to which I replied yes, and explained I used to buy it for her birthdays when I was a teenager in the early 80's......Later I found out mum only really wore it because I bought and didn't want to offend me lol

This perfume smell would come and go in the house and even got to the stage I would smell it before Lisa...At about the same time these things were happening Lisa got seriously ill and life was a bit stressful for us both, and we used to quip it was my mother keeping an eye on us...

Thankfully Lisa recovered although it took a couple of years, but as her recovery progressed, these events became less and less frequent...

They still happen from time to time, but maybe just once or twice a year now, but I have noticed it's usually following a particularly stressful event or upset and it is usually Lisa who senses a presence and smells the perfume first...

I fully understand why some want proveable scienctific evidence for things, and as there is none for dowsing (or even ghosts) therefore do not believe in it.

Now lets travel back in time a bit over 100 years to 1900. We are all at the local theatre listening to a person who is predicting the future.
1) People will sit at home watching a box showing live pictures of what is happening on the other side of the world.
Howls of laughter.
But this is TV and now not given a second thought.
2) People will walk on the moon and space travel will be common.
Howls of laughter.
This was 3 years before the Wright brothers first powered flight, but less than another 66 years after that on 16 July 1969 man had landed on the moon. Currently the International Space Station has been continuously manned for 20 years 254 days (and still counting).
3) People will put a uncooked meal into a box with no heat and no flame and it will cook in a few minutes.
Howls of laughter.
But this is a microwave oven.

Who knows in a few years there could well be proveable evidence for dowsing. It certainly works consistently for a lot of people for finding water, pipes and underground voids (sadly not for single coins). My own theory is that these features all cause some kind of microscopic change in earths electromagnetic field, and that some people are very sensitive to this causing the dowsing rods to move.
This could be the reason https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroreception

As for ghosts I have heard so many first hand cases, from normal reliable sensible people, of things that can not be explained or they say are ghosts that although I have never seen one myself I would not want to discount the idea.
