I’m still waiting for a couple of fields to be cut for hay so I’m scrabbling for anywhere to detect right now. Having had a chat with one of the locals they told me there is the remains of a track on a pasture field which I had only had a cursery sweep on once before and not found anything of note. But as it’d been cut for sileage a couple of weeks ago it was worth a shot.

I spent ten minutes walking to the said field through knee high grass and getting very wet feet and trousers. But was rewarded with the first hole giving me a Charles I shilling. Awful signal really, probably because it was in 4 pieces! Sadly, despite extensive digging around the final piece was nowhere to be found. Still a hammy is a hammy!

Is it an Exeter mint one? Rubbish condition, even without the breaks but the round shield back is unusual on the bust versions of the shilling.

Nothing much else of note on this field so I skipped over the hedge (sounds better than using the gate, which was what I really did).

Quiet on here too. But it was worth it to get this Henry VIII beauty. Full groat, second coinage. Any further details would be great!

You scrabbling around for land too? The rain has really helped a lot so I hope the pheasants like to be where the people used to go. Have fun!

That Henry is amazing - full flan, an all! Cracking coin, but the other herbert is in a sorry state, innit? Never seen a silver crumble like that and it makes you wonder how much silver is actually in it.
