I found this recently but still have no idea what it is/was.it’s been suggested that it’s a candle snuffer but I don’t think it is because it’s too shallow,in comparison with others I’ve seen.

To my mind it looks like it was the end of something but what?

The script appears to be medieval and the pieces attached to the copper alloy shell appear to be silver.

I would run it past the FLO as they will probably say more than 10% silver so might be treasure

Many thanks for your replies,I’ve already forwarded these photos to the FLO but as yet no reply.
I think the reliquary pendant might have been mentioned and would be very happy if this is early medieval which I hope would be Saxon.Obviously difficult to date but I’m hoping that the script will give some clues.

That is a stunning find! It looks important.

I looked at it and it gave me the chills. That’s weird isn’t it? I hope it was part of a reliquary box.
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

What a nice find that is, I'd be very happy to have unearthed that one.

It reminds me slightly of something that I found, minus the lovely text and silver though. I think my item might be much more recent though. I'll have a look in the tin and see if I can find it.
