Is anyone knowledgeable when it comes to lead?

I found this lump earlier in the week, it was showing a 30+ signal on the Equinox and when I eventually got to it, it was 15" deep.

It's very rough looking, I can't see any obvious deliberate markings and It weighs 1.3 Kg / 2lb 14oz.

Does the weight or shape provide any indication as to it's possible age?

That’s a hell of a chunk, lead is loud and often deep and unless there’s something that distinguishes it in some way, very difficult to id.The FLO might know, good luck.

Thanks for that.

My FLO is off on maternity leave until next year, but there is someone covering 1.5 days a week. I did email the temp FLO re my Roman find a couple of days ago, no reply but I expect that she'll be inundated with work for the time being. :problem:

Could be a weight, but waht for is anyones guess
Like the idea of an ingot. but would expect to find much more lead stuff around the area if that was the case

I've had a some small bits of lead, but nothing with an obvious purpose.

It looks like someone has melted a load of scrap bits into a hole in the ground.

Hmmmm it looks like a lead slab, not sure I’d think it qualified as an ingot but then an ingot is really just a set weight of lead I guess.

Either way a very interesting find though!
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking
