Ok it’s a mount of some type. It’s a star or sun shaped one that has a single central fixing hole in lead with some gilding remaining. Three of the points are broken off but I found 2 of the 3 pieces which are shown below.

Just wondered if anyone has seen anything like it before and could point me towards a probable date.

It was found between 8-9” down on old pasture in an area where nothing is older than 17th century. Deus 11” X35 coil on HOT with reactivity at 2.5.

The back is plain…

The front is decorated with some gilding…

Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

It looks like a ceiling or wall decoration.
This type of thing.

Thank you Easylife  that’s brilliant info.

Looks like they were used on high status buildings. Rather nice to see something like this and a nice change from the usual stuff :D

That’s an interesting piece,as you say nice to find something different and unusual now and again. Also interesting that they usually came from higher status buildings.

Nice find, Cath.
Like the reference to the High Status, Palaces, ref.
Just need to find that place on your permission.
Had a similar ref on some intricate lead work from a window vent but think it was looted from elsewhere.
See what your FLO says and hopefully you get the same ref.
Cheers,
Dave.

I suspect it comes from a medieval mansion where only part remains in sight of this field. But there may have been another house too? I haven’t found reference to one so I doubt it but you never know :D

I once found a large medieval door key but am pretty sure that there were no buildings there. Maybe was not too far away but now redeveloped land?
