Had half an hour out yesterday after work it’s only a small field but this is now the forth hammy found and brings up my 50th  since starting detecting hopefully still a few more out there for me :D it’s not as nice as the last Mary I found but still a rare find as only minted 1553/1554 it’s a strange old hobby as having back to back Mary’s from different fields what’s the chances of that

Any Mary, battered or not, is brilliant. I’ve never had a sniff.

And congratulations on your 50th hammered coin. I can’t remember how long you’ve been detecting for - guessing 3 years? That’s darn good going
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

I’ve had only 4 hammered in about 11years, so like hens teeth around my neck of the woods.

Some parts of the country are really hard to find hammered silver in. Guess the inhabitants weren’t as rich to have them and were more careful when they did. You invariably have other things instead though. Guess it’s the detecting game for you :geek:

What part of the country are you detecting?

I am in North Wales and they are pretty scarce around me...in about four years of detecting I have found 8; down South some people will find that in a couple of weeks...Looking back on recent Club digs, with 30 to 40 people out, generally 2 or 3 are turned up per dig, sometimes less, sometimes a bit more...

Away from club digs, I also suppose it depends if you are mostly a beach or land detectorist...they are not unknown finds on beaches, but certainly far less common than on land...

Well done, I was fortunate to find quite a nice one but will probably never find another. That's a decent hammy tally.

Well done, especially as her coins were only minted for a year or so.
Therefore battered or not, just the odds from AD zero are 2021 ?
Only found 2 Hammereds in 5 years of inland.
Cheers,
Dave.

Nicely done, sir  A nice tally you have there, too, but a couple of Mary coins adds to the quality as well as the quantity.
