Thanks for all your comments everyone.

Still really happy, I suspect it will be a while before I have a trip like that again, but I hope not. ;)

Good man Jamesey, well saved
Always carefully proof-read what you've typed to see if you've any words out.

Had a meeting with the landowner this evening and he's very kindly letting me keep the quarter stater in exchange for half the value, some nice photos and a copy of the PAS report when it's done.

We had a nice chat about coins, I took a couple of my reference books with me so I could give him a bit of the history.

He's a lovely chap, and he was genuinely excited to see it, I couldn't be happier that he let me keep it, it's a once in a lifetime find and although I could have just kept it quiet I would have felt that guilt for a long time, this way I can record it and actually be happy about my find, rather that sticking it in my safe never to see the light of day.

Sent a couple of pictures to my FLO and she is looking forward to seeing it when she has finished recording the heap of finds I had saved up while we didn't have an FLO in my area,

Although I'm very happy I got to keep it, I would have handed it over if he had wanted me to, I still got to find it and I'll never forget that moment, if I find another on his land that one will be for him for sure, (treasure act permitting) my first historical gold won't be something I'll forget in a hurry, but it's only fair that he gets to keep the next one if I'm privileged enough to find another.

Good man Jamesey  Glad you get to keep it too because I can feel your emotional attachment to it from here. I’d be the same!
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking
