Hi

I found this little curiosity on my permission in Cambridgeshire. I was hoping you might be able to help me identify it. I have an idea, but it's making me blush, so I thought I would ask you.

It's 7cm long.

Thank you

Well, that looks pretty phallic to my untrained eyes!
Obviously it was attached to something at one stage, almost like one half of a clasp to close a bag or something
But as my signature says, i am no good at ID's, so i'll just put the kettle on and wait for a grown up to come along and help out

Yup as ShaggyBFC said it’s a purse bar 1450-1550. A guide to these can be found on the Portable Antiquities Scheme website here.

They are a great find as hammered coins and other artefacts are usually around the same area :D
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

Thought it looked vaguely familiar but couldn't quite place it. Well, the old memory ain't what it was :D

Yep, purse bar.
