Saxon strap end?

Hello again guys.

Got this out of a field in north Notts a few weeks ago.

I have been told the decoration is in the Anglo Saxon Trewhiddle Style. It's a partifact, so I have been struggling to decide on what it actually is.

I would welcome your thoughts.

Firstly welcome to the forum. Lovely to see such great finds to start you off too :D

I’m rubbish at early medieval things although I adore them! It looks like a strap end but it could be other things too, including part of a cross maybe? I’ll let the experts do their magic. In the meantime you might like to read the fact sheets on Scandinavian designs (data sheets numbers 42 and 43) here

No idea but a nice ornate substantial piece.
