There are many other types of bells found which don't tend to get recorded so it would be interesting to see a few and maybe guess at their possible use. I think I have about half a dozen of them which I'll dig out for your opinions of.
So get your non crotal bells out!

Start with this one.
Is that a harness bell? I guess that servant bells were slightly larger and had a higher tin content?

Great idea for a thread

And sadly one I can't contribute to, never having found anything other than crotal bells, but interested to see what others have found.

The loop on that one looks quite beefy for it's thin body, maybe so it wouldn't wear out?

Just the one found by my detecting friend on Monday, although when i was researching and found very few recorded, one of the others was hers.

I have a couple of small bells that have been recorded but not as crotal bells

This one has a long shank

This one is a little crushed and wondered if it may be a hawking bell?

I found one part of the broken bell and popped that in the scrap bucket . A year or so later , same field and almost same spot I found the second piece so perhaps with some luck I can find the rest of it at some stage .
The cattle bell Cow / Sheep , not sure was given to me by a neighbour . I am not sure about this one though , it has the look and age to be genuine but I have a sneaky feeling it may be a repro , one of those fire place decorations with all the horse brass etc . Still quite nice though .

Here’s three different ones,
Saxon, Roman & a Medieval harness pendant bell.

I have this nice complete one but without its clanger. I have found what I think are clangers but could also be door drop handles. One I have found would have fitted this perfectly.
