Back out again today on another dig , different club and a nice small location , about 30 acres plus a stubble field opened up later for the afternoon . Slightly different approach today with my Daughter as my guest and time for me to step back and be her digging side kick today which I was more than happy to do as I was a bit knackered from yesterdays trip out .
Beginners luck but she only went and got herself a hammered coin ! KILLLLL  Joking aside , it was a great moment and I was well pleased for her .

Even more surprising was where it was found and that was in a very trashy part of the field by some old sheds . The ground was festooned with clumps of iron and aluminium scraps but it was a good spot to get used to the signals and what they sounded like . We dug a few just so she could see what the difference was and a slightly sweeter sound proved to be a button so it was a good gauge from the grunts , squeaks and groans the machine was sounding off . Not long after it was announced that a higher pitch was the next target , I listened in the headphones while she waved the coil over it , we dug it and there it was , dont know who was more surprised me or her , great stuff .
Couple of other bits and bobs and a nice looking slide lid came up with patent dates . It reminded me of one of those domino or pencil case lids with the thumb insert to pull away the lid . No idea what it originally was used for but a nice piece anyway .

A stint in the finds tent to man the table gave us chance to have a chat with a few members and have our lunch and all the while the sky was looking more and more threatening as a great grey bank of cloud loomed up above the trees . The did predict rain later that afternoon and it did just that with rumbling of thunder to let you know its coming .
A couple more swift swings around the field and rain stopped play but by then we had just about had enough and it was time to head for home .Great day out and another disciple ready to join the hobby .
28 members today and almost half of them were woman , really good to see the girls joining in

Told ya today was going to be a special day
Well done to your daughter :clapping:
Hope thats fixed the detecting bug into her DNA fella

Even better she found it in a trashy area, that takes work and patience to pull a hammy from an area like that

So glad you had a fun day Paul and you got to see your daughter unearth her first hammered coin. And a sterling imitation no less :Star: Very nice indeed!

The sliding box lid (if that is what it is?) is intriguing. Love to know what the dates mean!
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

Great coin to start her collection with, and maybe be prepared for a bit of "Da-a-ad, can I borrow the detector again?" in the future :D

Intriguing box lid. It says PATENTED then a list of dates - surely that's not a list of dates the patent was renewed?

Well done to your Daughter, Paul.
Similar to myself, on a few occasions youngest son has come detecting, he`s had the better finds.
Is she interested in your bottle digs ?
Once again bottle scavenging was something my son was good at and it was he who found the surface finds to one of the dumps
Cheers,
Dave.

I was wondering the same with the lid , dates could possibly relate to patent renewals .
