It is of similar size to half a pot handle but clearly is a small vessel leg of animal paw design and likely of post medieval date.

One end looks unbroken the other looks like a break . The back is flat and the whole thing looks fairly worn and smooth if that helps

I didn’t want to but young un had had enough and was hungry! Hopefully get back on there the weekend if I can get some diesel for the van by then! There is a chance the field could have been seeded by then though

It is flat on both sides so is more likely to be a handle which is why the unbroken edge is squared off, rather than angled. It isn’t a paw leg type as it isn’t 3 dimensional. There are some post medieval plain pot legs with this ridge too but this is much more likely to be part of a straight pot handle where a decorative knop was added near the end of the handle in the 17th/ early 18th century.

We can argue all day though if you like. Maybe mattjb can settle this as they have it in their hands and we don’t
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

We are clearly seeing the item in different ways. To me the leg doesn't look flat at all but definitely 3 dimensional with a slightly angled paw foot. Maybe Matt will post more pics for you?

I’ve labelled it as pot leg/handle and I’m not bothered about getting a definite ID on it anyway so no point in anyone getting their knickers in a knot!
Grateful for both your inputs
