I found this yesterday on one of my local permissions while out with Nox, and I am really not sure what to make of it…

Initially I was hoping there was a possibility it was a small Roman (I live in hope!) but after getting it home and giving it a gentle clean, I then thought it was maybe part of a bag seal?

However, the metal seems closer to bronze than lead ie it's quite hard and if it is a seal, I can’t see any indication it had another half to it..One side is fairly flat while the other is slightly convex and in the hand, I fancy I can see indications of lettering on the edge of both sides but this maybe wishful thinking on my part! The black lines on the grid are 1cm so the item is about 12mm to 15mm in diameter...

It does kind of look like a Roman and not sure if I can see a bust looking right? I'd go over that with a pencil to better highlight the detail.

I 'think' I can see a bust facing right - curly haired fellow with a pointed nose - so could be a Marcus Aurelius or a Lucius Verus, but very hard to say - could as easily be a lump of scrap :D
Always carefully proof-read what you've typed to see if you've any words out.

I'm seeing a bust too, but as said it could do with a bit of cleaning/highlighting to be sure. Doesn't look like the other side will reveal much but you never know

that did occur to me as well, but in the hand, using the farmers thumb nail test, it does seem quite hard for lead... I haven't gone over it with a pencil yet as I don't want to distort the colour, but rather let it show true so to speak...

Get yer pencil out Pete and don’t worry about the colour cause it washes off easily

Old lead can be very hard though!
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

First pic did look like a bag seal though that tapered edge did not. :?
