Out with my detecting friend on the field where the spur rowel box came from recently.
Finds for me were either shotties, lead bits of rusty metal and the highlight was an ornate draw knob.
My friend however did better , finding interesting items.
First up is this spooky thing i don`t even want in the house, has a Satanic, Funereal look to it, guessing Victorian, shame only 2/3 is here but that is too much..
Shield shape, 40mm at widest point, probably around 50/55mm in length if complete.
Central figure could be an Angel, seems to have wings by the ears, actually thought it was a Goat, Female figure on left, a figure i thought was a Negro on the top.

Any info welcome.
Strange coin shaped item with EL below a 3 pronged crown,
17mm Diameter, 50 grains in weight as i think it is a weight, darker centre circle. Not raised as appears in photo
Image
reverse manufactured like this and seen on 2 examples of French Coin weights.
Image
Next item possibly a Roman coin, can just make out a bust looking to the right.
Heavy old coin 17.6g, 31mm diameter and thick at 2mm.
Image
Reverse is totally devoid of anything,
Image
Finally a James II, 1689 Gun money coin, XXX denotes Half Crown and until i looked this up did not realise the month was also added to these, this one being May.. Sometimes we struggle to get anywhere near a year, let alone a specific Month.

So there you have it, concisely beaten 4-0 on the interesting items front.
Better show you my humdrum metallic finds.

The draw knob is resting in a bicycle brake block holder.
Season score is 7-3 in my friends` favour.
Cheers everyone and may you have better luck than i did.
Dave.

Some great finds, but alas, I cannot help you with identification. I would however like to confirm that the first item is pretty scary and may carry an evil curse. 😳 It’s probably best that your friend found it.

The mount looks like it's a faun or satyr kinda fing. The top profile I'm seeing as a human with ram's horn, so that would fit if so.

Cracking James coin, and the other one I'm not sure is Roman simply because it looks too even. But there does appear to be a bust in the first image.

Come on Dave - you're 4 finds down but I'll have an each-way bet that you'll draw level next time out

That top piece is quite eery to look at
The 3 faces surrounding the main one all look grumpy and miserable
Are they horns or really large ears?
Interesting though and worthy of some more investigation

Interesting on your pic of the reverse as it looks like a small square hole punched through, almost like a nail that mounted it somewhere
Church related?....although quite dark, there are examples of such things with the gargoyles etc

Second item now confirmed, Elizabethan Official trade weight, would have been 1/8 oz.
Example below of what the markings should look like.
https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts ... /id/551246
The marks on rear are file marks to get the precise weight.
Thanks to Kev ( The Roman ? ) :clapping: for the info.
Cheers,
Dave.
