I think photo restrictions mean I could not add these last two photos.
This object I thought was a nail but, on cleaning it, I could see a lot of notching on it and it also looks bronze, but I can’t think what else it could be!
Further grateful thanks for any ideas.

The notching is strange on this...without it i would have gone for a nail, but the notching makes it a nail with a purpose

RE: the photos, its 6 for each post, so you can then add more in the next post below it if necessary

First thing that sprang to mind was a seal top spoon handle but that could be miles off

Thank you both for the replies. I really appreciate it. Notching from top end of object if that’s any help, but please disregard if no help whatsoever!
Huge thanks again.

“a nail with a purpose” Are you saying that nails without notches have no use nor purpose in their pitiful lives? 🙀😂

It's a bit like a bodkin, are there holes just below the top or is that just extra decoration?

It's also quite like half of a draw handle?
D2 - 13"x11" coil - audio only.

Thank you so much for the input Easylife. No, not a bodkin, as no holes, just notches for function or decoration. Too flimsy to be a draw handle IMO.
Am so grateful for the information though, thank you!

Knowing the actual size may help? Maybe a stylus?

Any Roman off that site? Could be a stylus from said period. Certainly looks early.

That sounds very plausible  There are some Roman pins that are quite chunky and longish too aren’t there? I mean something like this one… https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts ... id/1037216
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

Thank you Easylife. It’s 4.28g and 620mm long. Could be a stylus, will investigate further on PAS.
I’m so grateful for your and everyone’s input!

Thank you Allectus.Yes I’ve found one Constantine II off the field too, but that’s it. Will research styluses/styli (?) and see what I can find out. Thanks again

Thank you so much Oxgirl and, yes, examining your links , particularly the third one, it could well be! I’ll be over the moon if it is 😀
