Hello again
I wonder if someone could help me ID this coin. I thought it was a very worn George III at first but after I’d cleaned it up I realised how heavy it was, and uneven in thickness. Could it be Roman?
The bust faces right, is blank on the reverse and it weighs 18g. It’s very ‘chunky’.it’s slightly smaller than a George III penny.
Many continued and grateful thanks for any information on it.

That said, I've got several sestertii that I've found recently beside me and have just popped them on the scales. The weights are 18, 20 and 23g.

Thank you so much for your reply Buried. I have a reasonable condition George III coin which weighs in at 17.11g. But I don’t know enough about Georgian coins to know whether the different types made would have varied so much in weight (apart from Cartwheels obviously) and it’s definitely not a Cartwheel. I really want it to be Roman 😂

The diameter is right for a sestertius, but my bet is firmly on George III. Let's see what others think

I think it looks more Roman than George III.

I'm afraid that's a bit hard to mistake for Georgian... ( just sayin' ! 😁) def Roman!!! Well done - nothing like a chunky sestertius and they are so tactile too... I keep the odd one in my pocket!

Not by me it isn't

Every sestertius I've found is a bit mis-shapen, which made me think that the perfectly round shape might not be one. I won't be applying for an FLO position any time soon :D
