Evening All,
Hope all well - a wee key and a wee buckle found quite close together in Herts... I'm not sure the key is super early but the buckle might be... Any help much appreciated!
All the Best
Alexander

Nice finds, have a google of CJs metal detecting finds buckles. Yours looks to be in section 5 medieval. Don’t know about the key though!

I think the buckle may be a D shape single loop strap end buckle 1350 - 1450

There's good examples in Ross Whitehead Buckle book 72, 75 and 76 page 21

Love keys, only ever found two (excluding very modern ones) and one has pride of place in my glass display case. Nice old buckle too

Thanks Steve - I don't have a proper buckle book... would you recommend Whiteheads? Is it available - still in print? Thanks in advance!

I find very few - that's why I like finding them too! This little one came up a few days ago - I think it is from the Ottoman Empire. :D

The Whitehead buckle book is so much nicer to use than the pdf version, mine had a valuation sheet for the buckles in the book. I would highly recommend it.
