I'm afraid I have no clue at all about these; they have sat on my kitchen table while I hope to come across something similar on the binge watched youtube detecting vids and many scrolled PAS pages....all appear copper alloy. The "rod" is cylindrical at the widest end and tapers to a break that is oval in profile. Widest end 12.68mm diameter.

Your help with id's would be most appreciated!

The middle item is for nesting weights if I remember correctly. I’ll find one

Thank you! I found a little cup weight that looked very similar if somewhat "dumpier"! That same dimple inside.
I wondered what the hinges were for.....

It's beautifully made, but for some reason I had a niggle that it wouldn't have age! !!

Too right re the school days and detecting ; I'm hoping the id's become a little less unfathomable with experience! The hobby is certainly a master of intrigue.

That has a lovely patina, Cath beat me to it with the ID
Only seen one other before, you never know the lid and weights might be somewhere close, if lost together

Well found and saved

Regards Steve

Many thanks Steve! I will revisit the field. In the same area I found the rod type piece, casket key, three hammered coins and also a seal matrix of the Deanery of Elham - that is very special to me!

 Satisfaction only I'm afraid as a prize!
Thanks for the thinking, I'm not sure I'll ever find what the handle thing is, but I'll look for strap stiffeners...

Just a guess though it kind of looks strap related? I could be miles off but I think I have seen this before somewhere.
