These two very different items were found on the same field and I assume the rectangular one is a mount of some sort, but have no idea as to a probable date for it, so would welcome help with that.
The holed item weighs 12.00 grams, and the flatter 'reverse' seems to show signs of wear at the top of the hole. It could well be rubbish, but it seems more design than accident when I look at it. Some kind of weight?

I would keep an open mind on that blob...Some sort of weight seems feasible, but I am sure I have seen pictures of very old, crude pendants with a similar over all shape...

I agree on the blob and keeping an open mind
It doesnt strike me as a bit of waste from some casting, it does have a designed look about it
Designed for what though we may never know :ugeek:

I would think it has to either be a weight or a bead.

Many thanks! - I have held off from posting said 'blob' but curiosity got the better of me.
I'm not sure if the photo's show it well, but the 'reverse' (flatter side) shows some wear to the hole as if it has been suspended. The 'front' which is more domed, almost has a hexagonal shape, which is shadowed in the area around the hole; or perhaps I'm imagining too much!
It definitely keeps inviting me to look again though.

Yes, the flatter side is one of the things that makes me think "pendant"....Personally, I would be sending pics off to my FLO on that one....

Interesting to see what the FLO makes of the ` blob `
Could have been worn.
I know it is just the way it has worn over the centuries but that is a distinctive image of a bloke looking to the left at the 5 o`clock position .
Cheers,
Dave.

It's certainly got something about it!
I'm having no luck with an id though..... the closest I have found in shape were made out of ivory.

I like blob - could it be an Ironage pendant?
