Was out on a cold morning today, firstly back to the same roman patch I found last weekend. Found a few more grots pretty quickly and the tiny strap mount.Any ideas on age for the mount? You can see traces of circular decorations at both ends but it’s pretty corroded.
After that we tried the next field over , one we’ve never tried until now, I headed over to the highest point in the field and soon found the two lead weights and then a roman bronze that had some detail on. The emperor has a bit of a basin barnet and a pointy chin , if anyone can figure out which emperor it is I’d be grateful.
Some Georgian coppers, another roman grot and a few other pre decimal coins turned up, I’ve always wanted to find a bullhead sixpence but unfortunately the one I found was a fake!
My mate found the two pronged item , I’m assuming it’s from a buckle?
Strangely on this permission there doesn’t seem to be anything in between roman and Georgian or there hasn’t been so far but it’s been enjoyable.

The last item on your finger couldn't be a Roman fly brooch could it?

Some hard work digging in that session fella, plenty of diggable signals

That 2 pronged piece i was gonna say was part of a "Gunters chain" but i notice yours doesnt have a hole to suspend it by
Is there wear on the rounded part of the gap?
Could be a spacer of sorts for some machinery

Failing that you could well be right with it being part of a buckle i havent seen before

Good session though and thanks for sharing :clapping:

That's an interesting thought...A quick Google shows a wide variety of slightly different designs with this one certainly being "close"..

Given the other Roman finds, and unless somebody else comes up with an alternative ID, this is definately one for the FLO to consider....

I’ve had a bit of dig around on the net and I think it’s a post medieval mount. I can’t find one exactly the same but simply shape and size.

Cheers, I think the two pronged piece is the centre from a Georgian shoe buckle.
Any ideas on the emperor on the bronze?

My first thought too, but I am looking at it on a tablet.

Your pronged item looks like a medieval forked strap end spacer

This was the similar mount I spotted on the net, slightly different design but decoration looks the same.

Blimey, I forgot about that. House of Constantine GLORIA EXERCITVS reverse type, and if forced I'd plump for Constantine Jnr

 Thanks for that , of the three Romans that have any detail on that I’ve found on that permission, all three are Constantine it seems.

Cheers, I went out well layered up and soon had to take my coat off even though it was frosty.
