I was out today with the Soil Searchers, on a Bronze age, Roman field, bordering a major roman road, the road as expected was rock hard, and covered in rape seed stubble just to make it fun  And although the going was indeed tough, I did find a few items to keep me interested, until the heat beat me off the field.

Now, I did have one find of interest, and it may well be going to the FLO for a formal ID, whilst searching the higher ground on this field with my Nox 800, and the stubble beater small 6" coil, I got a banging signal, loud, clear, and showing 21 on the screen, so I dug down five inches or so, and out popped a pebble like bronze item, the item you can see below. Originally it was filled with rock hard soil, so was quite heavy, it has now since washing proved to be empty, but very tactile with a great patina

But what is it, it looks all the world to be a hollow bronze knife pommel? but what do you think.

Sizes L 40mm, W 30mm, D 22mm

I don’t think you’re far off with the ID, can’t think what else it might have been
Great find

Is it a two piece joined or cast in one whole piece, had a quick buzz through PAS on the phone (not ideal) and there is an Iron Age one and some similar to that as medieval
Yours has some age to it so it’ll be interesting what the FLO thinks

Blimey Kevin, another BC find if proved right, along with your Republican Denarii you are winding back in history.

There is one on the PAS site that is very close, same small hole on top, same big hole on bottom, but it is decorated, not plain like my one, dated uptown 1AD...
I wonder if the FLO will call it junk we shall see
