Hi all,
What do you think of this cast lead alloy button. Not sure it’s a lead alloy , it doesn’t feel right for pewter.
Any ideas on age or what the design is?
Thanks

Now that is a button worth finding

From a quick search it looks around 17thC but it could well be earlier.

Very nice find indeed! I am no expert but the crudeness of the construction and the design itself look very old to me??? One for the FLO to have a look at...

Trawling through the PAS database, there are several similar cast lead buttons showing as medieval 1300 - 1400, so looks like Victoria will be getting some more emails

I’m looking at the detail and there appears to be more too it than first sight. Is there a stag?

I like it a lot
Yes I really don’t like Roman coins, I’m not joking

The pattern looks kind of 15th c but the button could be much later, yet the shank looks kind of earlier! :pulling hair out: :rollinglaughing:
